How To Rebuild Your Washer Brush Bearing Using The Rebuild Kit

SHARE

Why rebuild your GED Stainless steel washer brush bearings?

Keeping your washer’s brush bearings in excellent condition is pivotal for ensuring that the cleaning quality of glass remains high. Well-maintained bearings ensure the brushes perform effectively, and reduces their wear over time, directly impacting the cleanliness and quality of the processed glass.

Keeping the bearings in a good functional condition will reduce machine vibration and reduce risk of glass breakage, which can cause production stoppages, operational inconsistencies leading to reduced productivity or complete machine failure with an extended downtime scenario.

It is important to maintain the performance of your GED Stainless Steel Washer, and you can do so with our genuine OEM parts and rebuild kits. The following procedure outlines the process of rebuilding your washer brush support bearing using components included in the washer brush bearing rebuild kit.

When to Service Your Washer?

It is recommended to inspect and potentially rebuild your washer bearings when signs of wear or failure, such as unusual noises, a decrease in spinning efficiency, or visible wear on the bearings is noticed. These symptoms indicate that it’s time to plan for part replacement.

Procedure

2.1 Uninstall the bearing unit from the washer. If the bearing is seized on the brush shaft, use a gear puller to remove the unit. Do not use a hammer or any other tool to strike any portion of the bearing assembly as this will damage parts that need to be reused.

2.2 Inspect bearing condition. If the inner bearings have worn to the point where the inner shaft has come in contact with the metal seal casing, the shaft components must be replaced. Contact GED Service for additional components.

2.3 Remove the retaining ring which holds the outer sleeve to the inner sleeve.

2.4 Push the inner sleeve out of the bearing assembly. The outer sleeve will be left in the assembly held in place by the seal on that end of the bearing assembly. It may be removed at this time.

2.5 Remove the seals.

2.6 Remove ball-bearing units.

2.7 Using any available cleaners or degreasers, clean the bearing housing, and inner and outer sleeves taking care not to damage any of the sealing or bearing surfaces.

2.8 Inspect all parts. If any components exhibit excessive wear or damage, contact GED Service.

2.9 Insert new ball-bearing units into housing. These bearings are radial contact type, so the direction of installation is not significant.

2.10 Insert the inner sleeve through the bearing inner races.

2.11 Install O-rings into grooves in the inner sleeve. Care should be taken not to twist or damage the O-rings during installation.

2.12 Assemble the outer sleeve onto the inner sleeve so that the OD chamfer is facing outward. This will aid in seal installation in the next step.

2.13 Assemble new seals over inner/outer sleeves and press into housing.

2.14 Assemble the new retaining ring to the inner sleeve.

Additional Maintenance Tips

In addition to bearing maintenance, ensure the washer’s filter is regularly checked, and replaced as needed, this will ensure optimal air flow to the air knives, allowing you to run the washer at optimal speeds without concern if glass is exiting dry. Inspect all hoses for leaks or brittleness, inspect washer water quality for TDS and PH levels that are recommended by sealant and glass manufacturers, and inspect spray nozzle to ensure they’re clog free. These steps are essential for optimal washer performance and longevity.
